curator statement:
At a time when the world seems closer to its end than to its beginning, we choose to once again ask ourselves about the body. What active bodies do we need on today’s screens? We propose an active pause to contemplate stories.
A woman collecting bottles on the street to survive in the first world.
A young Black girl who dreams of becoming a Ballet’s dancer.
Three friends hitchhiking to visit a famous singer’s sanctuary.
Two 70-year-old friends who want to become mermaids.
A little girl who wants to study, but whose fate is already decided.
A teenager sharing her experiences accompanying friends to get abortions.
A dystopian world where a trans woman avenges colonization.
The Activisms category invites us to observe, from an intimate perspective and through a mix of documentary and fiction, which bodies are discarded by capitalism. Alejandra Pizarnik tells us in her poem: “Fierce joy when I find an image that speaks of me (…) when there is language where there should be silence.” Trans women, children, teenagers, and old women take over the screen to become mirrors. How far away do we feel from them? This plurality of voices seeks to bring complexity to the visibility of our existences. Fierce joy when I see an image that speaks of me.
