Thursday, 29 August, 8:00 pm

followed by discussion, moderated by journalist Nadja Vancauwenberghe

Documentary, USA 2024, 103 min, directed by Zaya & Maurizio Benazzo, featuring Dr. Gabor Maté, Ashira Darwish & Ahed Tamimi, Amira Haas, Neta Golan, Bassem Tamimi, Narimam Tamimi

“Where Olive Trees Weep” was shot over three weeks, between May and June 2022 in the West Bank. The documentary deals with the woes and struggles of the Palestinian people living under Israeli occupation through a series of interviews with experts and local residents: Palestinian journalist and therapist Ashira Darwish, grassroots activist Ahed Tamimi, and Israeli journalist Amira Hass. Also featured is the world-renowned Canadian-Hungarian Holocaust survivor Gabor Mate who offers trauma-healing to Palestinian women tortured in Israeli prisons.

This documentary provides a much-needed historical and social context to the drama unfolding today in Gaza. It also explores such themes as the quest for justice, resilience, loss and trauma, all topics we’ll explore further with the audience and our guest Adriano Costa.
