Un sistema de vuelos espaciales

Argentina 2024, 24:53 min,D.: Julián Pérez Cantón

Set in 1996, a time of excess and frivolity in Argentina.
The 90s saw the birth of hyper social inequality that resulted in insecurity as a structural fact.
‘Un sistema de vuelos espaciales’, portrays the life of Osvaldo, an unemployed scriptwriter, obsessed with outer space. After months of depression, he finally gets a job thanks to his uncle, a sinister and corrupt character linked to the upper echelons of power. The job consists of writing presidential speeches. But after several blunders, Osvaldo faces the challenge of his life: to write an epic presidential speech that will remain in the memory of the Argentinean people forever.
The poster of an old science fiction movie will be the key for Osvaldo to find the necessary inspiration.
Pizza with champagne and spaceships in the stratosphere are intermingled in this story, which combines fiction with real historical events that took place in the Argentine Republic, governed at the time by a president drunk with power.
The untold story of the most delirious presidential speech of the 20th century.

A different goal

What would happen if intelligent machines started developing their own goals, different from those of humankind?

Vision

Japan 2023, 7:18 min, D.: Çağıl Harmandar

Eyes are magical spheres that make up dreams and retain memories. In our eyes, the visions of the within and of the beyond overlap. New worlds come to be when our gazes meet.

Under Berlin Film Festival

The long-anticipated second edition of the Under Berlin Film Festival, Berlin’s international festival of unconventional, experimental, and avant-garde cinema, will be hosted for the first time at Lichtblick-Kino!

Focusing on the diffusion of innovative cinematographies, its eclectic program includes feature films, short fiction, animation, and documentary films from across the globe, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Romania, the Philippines, Slovenia, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Finland, Norway, and the USA. All films will be screened in their original language with English subtitles.

This edition will feature 38 films, including the World Premiere of the Dutch film Tori: Book 1 by Roy Rezaäli, who will also be present for a Q&A following the screening.

New to this year’s festival are three exciting sections:
Under the Light, with a special focus on Argentine Cinema, Non Humans, dedicated to exploring new technologies in audiovisuals, particularly AI, and Underline, a parallel section showcasing experimental short films inspired by literature, which will be continuously screened from 4 to 9 November at Andenbuch KulturRaum (Tempelhof-Kreuzberg).

UBFF is part of the UNDER Transterritorial Film Network, which is celebrating its 20th edition this year. The primary aim of this networked festival is to showcase films that take risks—whether in terms of production, subject matter, or aesthetics—that often leave them on the margins of traditional exhibition circuits.

Direction and General Production: Peri Azar / 8A-110 Collective
