Fred Frith, John Zorn, Arto Lindsay, Ciro Battista, Iva Bittová, Bob Ostertag, Joey Baron, Jonas Mekas, Robert Frank – vereint in einer Zelluloid-Improvisation über Rhythmus, Bilderlust und Lebensfreude. Konzertmitschnitte, Interviews in heruntergekommenen Hotelzimmern und Kamerafahrten durch Metropolen wie New York und Tokio vermischen sich zu einer mitreißenden Klangreise.
Musik und Bild sind eigenständig, keines unterwirft sich dem anderen und doch ergeben sich Überschneidungen, die mal komisch, mal absurd, mal einfach schön sind – wie die Maisfelder im Wind, die einen magischen Augenblick lang im Rhythmus von Friths Improvisationen schwingen.

In this documentary about the multi-instrumentalist Fred Frith, the free montage and observational skills of Direct Cinema respond to the improvised music of its protagonist. Like the musicians in a band, the film team sees itself as a collective working together on spontaneous artistic expression. Over two years of filming in Japan, Europe and the USA, concert recordings, interviews and everyday life on the road are captured and combined into a rhythmic journey of sound.
